UEFA has already launched an investigation into the incident
Fenerbahce condemned the chants of his ultras against Russian President Vladimir Putin in confrontation with Dynamo in the second match of the Champions League qualification (1:2). At the same time, the Turkish club’s statement emphasized the separation of sports and politics.
“The behavior of the fans does not reflect the position of Fenerbahce. Our club was one of the first to respond to the outbreak of hostilities on February 24, 2022. We emphasize once again: war is not courage, it is cowardice.
“Our attitude to the current situation is well known from the first day. The current situation does not reflect the position and values of the club. Whatever the reason for this reaction of our fans, we do not accept it.
Recall that during the meeting, a number of Fenerbahce ultras began to chant the name of Russian President Putin. After the game, Kiev coach Mircea Lucescu, outraged by the actions of the fans, refused to attend the post-match press conference.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey Vasily Bodnar also condemned the actions of Fenerbahce fans, calling them unacceptable. In turn, UEFA reacted to the actions of the Turkish ultras by launching an investigation.
Dynamo defeated Fenerbahce (2:1) in extra time thanks to goals from Vitaly Buyalsky and Alexander Karavaev. The first meeting in Lodz ended with the score 0:0.
In the third round of the Champions League qualification, Dynamo will play against Sturm. The first fight will take place on August 3 in Lodz. The match starts at 21:00.
