Having steamrolled through the division, Khristich’s team returned to a level they had not played at since 2017
Ukrainian national hockey team confidently outplayed Lithuania in the last round match World Championship 2024 in Division IB – 4:1.
At stake in the fight, which took place in Vilnius, was the title of world champion in this division and a ticket to the top level – in Division IA. Dmitry Khristich’s team coped with this task with honor, winning each of the three periods with a minimal score.
In the middle of the first and second ten minutes, Daniil Trakht scored goals, thanks to this he overtook the Estonian Robert Roobu in the list of the best snipers of the tournament. At the same time, Lithuania desperately resisted, and at the end of each period had good chances to clear the score, but Bogdan Dyachenko unmistakably held the last line.
The blue-and-yellows defended the result quite confidently in the third period, and towards the end of the match Andrei Deniskin brought the score to a large one, converting the majority with an accurate long-range shot.
The Lithuanians were awarded prestige for the puck, but nothing more. At the same time, our compatriots had the last word: Alexander Peresunko made an interception and ran into an empty goal. This puck was also his fifth in the tournament – according to additional indicators, the Poprad striker won the scorers competition.
The Ukrainian team triumphed with five wins out of five possible and an astonishing goal difference of 31:2. Each of the matches at this World Cup was won by our team with a large score.
Ukraine has been promoted to Division IA, where it will play for the first time since 2017. It remains to add that the Netherlands team dropped to Division IIA, taking last place in our sextet.
