After 12 years and five titles won, captain Marco Reus will not renew his contract and is leaving Borussia Dortmund

Marco Reus is one of the symbolic players in the history of Borussia Dortmund, with 13 seasons defending the German team. By mutual agreement between the parties, the player will not renew his contract and, at the age of 34, will leave the club that projected him into world football.

In a video published by Dortmund on their official accounts, Reus spoke about the feeling of leaving the club. “I am extremely grateful and proud for this special moment at my club, Borussia Dortmund. I spent more than half my life at this club and I enjoyed every day, although there were difficult moments.”declared the captain.

Despite being satisfied with his career, the German understands that it will be a difficult process to say goodbye. “I already know it will be difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season. Still, I’m happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the important final games. We have a big goal in mind and we all want to achieve it together.”said.

The beginning of Reus’ career was at Borussia Dortmund, still in the youth teams, but he was not a big highlight in his first professional years at the club. The player’s national projection was in Borussia Monchengladbachbut returned to his favorite team in 2012 and, from that moment on, he made 424 appearances, with 168 goals scored and 100 assists.

In total, Reus won five titles with Borussia Dortmund, two German Cups it’s three German Super Cups. Last season was the closest to the title of the Bundesligawith the team leading the competition until the last round, but letting the trophy slip away and fall into the rival’s lap Bayern Munchen.
