Gilardino decided to stay in Genoa

Several Serie A clubs, led by Fiorentina, claimed Alberto

Head coach Genoa Alberto Gilardino reached a verbal agreement with the club management regarding the continuation of the contract.

The 41-year-old coach is expected to sign a new two-year deal soon. His salary will reportedly be around a million euros under the new contract.

A month ago it was reported that the Genoese club was taking measures to keep the coach. Throughout April, negotiations were held on extending the current agreement for a year until the summer of 2025.

Recently, information has appeared that the Griffins coach has received offers from other clubs – Fiorentina, Monza and Torino. It was even reported that Fabio Grosso could become Alberto’s replacement.

Gilardino, 41, a former high-profile striker, has been in charge of Genoa since December 2022. Under his leadership, the team returned to Serie A at the end of last season.

Genoa is in 12th place in Serie A with 42 points after 34 rounds. Gilardino’s team, for which Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovsky plays (three goals and two assists in 28 matches), has already secured itself from relegation, but does not qualify for European competition. Tomorrow, May 5, the Griffins will play away against Milan.
