A small feat of an outsider that intensified the struggle for survival to the limit
Champion Italy Interalready deprived of tournament motivation, lost with a minimal score Sassuolo in the away match of the 35th round of the Italian Serie A – 0:1.
The Neroverdi, desperate for a win, opened the scoring in the 20th minute – Josh Doig scraped the ball from Denzel Dumfries on the flank and passed it to Armand Loriente, who fired home Emil Audero’s goal with a powerful shot.
For the rest of the time, Sassuolo diligently fought off the attacks of Simone Inzaghi’s team. The visitors equalized before the break, but Lautaro Martinez’s goal was disallowed for offside after VAR intervention.
The entire second half the game went as expected. Inter had the ball the vast majority of the time, had significantly more shots on goal, but only hit the target once in the entire game.
Sassuolo heroically survived and scored 29 points. According to additional indicators, Davide Ballardini’s team remained 19th, but at least temporarily came close to the saving 17th position.
The champion suffered only his second defeat in the championship and his first in 29 rounds. Moreover, what is most striking is that both times it was Sassuolo that upset the hegemon.
In the next round, Inter will play against another fighter for survival, Frosinone, and Sassuolo will go to Genoa to the team of Ruslan Malinovsky.
