Marcos Braz blasts arbitration after Flamengo x Bragantino: “Worrying”

After the draw between Flamengo and Bragantino, Marcos Braz harshly criticized the refereeing of the match and spoke about errors in other Brasileirão games

Last Saturday, the 4th, the Bragantino received the Flamengoin a match valid for the fifth round of the Brasileirãoand secured a 1-1 draw. However, the game did not end after the final whistle, as players, members of the technical committee and Mengão’s management were very unhappy with the referee’s performance in the duel.

Flamengo’s complaints are about two moments in the match. The first was the expulsion of Luan Cândido, which was determined by the referee on the field, but the VAR called for a review, signaling a foul by the locals earlier. Furthermore, a possible penalty in Luiz Araújo angered Mengão, considering that the situation had not even been reviewed.

After the game, Marcos Braz, Flamengo’s vice-president of football, spoke about his dissatisfaction with the refereeing. “Today, the topic we are going to talk about here cannot be any different, it has to be arbitration. I think the way Brazilian football is being conducted in this championship is worrying,” said the leader.

Furthermore, Braz stated that his concern with refereeing performance is not limited to Flamengo alone. “I think it’s worrying for all of us, it’s not just for Flamengo”, said. Afterwards, the vice-president gave reports on Mengão’s moments related to the Brasileirão referees.

The director cited the episode that happened in the match between Flamengo and Botafogo, in which Fogão won 2-0, and Luiz Henrique was not punished for celebrating while wearing a mask. In Marcos Braz’s view, the match referee was “lax” and did not follow the rules appropriate for that situation.
