Ex-coach of Alexandria Gura heads Tiraspol Sheriff

Terms of the contract are not disclosed

Sheriff (Tiraspol) announced his appointment as head coach Yuri Guru. Earlier, Sport Arena reported about the possible appointment of a mentor.

The duration and terms of the contract were not disclosed. Let us remind you that in December 2022, Yuri Guru was fired from Alexandria along with the entire coaching staff. Gura has led Alexandria since May 2021.

The short list of the Tiraspol club included several Ukrainian specialists: former coach of Obolon, Chernomorets and Ingulets Sergei Kovalets, as well as ex-coach of Desna Alexander Ryabokon.

This is not the first time that the Sheriff has resorted to working with Ukrainian mentors. The Tiraspol club had a historic season under Yuri Vernidub – it made it to the group stage of the 2021/22 Champions League, where it sensationally beat Shakhtar and Real Madrid.

Sheriff, founded in 1997, has won the Moldovan championship 21 times in the 21st century. In the 2023/24 season, the club from Tiraspol won the first round, but in the 2024 Championship Group it is in second place two matches before the end of the season.
