French Paris Saint Germain has set three Champions League records for shots on the woodwork, reports Opta.
Dortmund Borussia defeated PSG in the second semi-final of the Champions League with a score of 1:0. In the first match, which took place on May 1 in Dortmund, the hosts won with a score of 1:0. Based on the sum of the two matches, Borussia reached the Champions League final for the third time in its history. In 1997, the team won the trophy by beating Juventus in Turin (3:1) in the decisive match. In the last match of 2013, the Dortmund club lost to Bayern Munich – 1:2.
Opta informs that the Parisians have set three records at once for the number of hits on the bars and crossbars. The ball hit the woodwork of the opposing PSG goal 14 times, a record in the current Champions League. Neither team had previously tested the strength of the opponent’s goal frame in the Champions League playoffs 4 times in one match and 6 times in a two-match confrontation.
Also in the semi-final second leg with Borussia, the Parisians set a Champions League playoff record for shots in a match without scoring a goal – 30 shots.
The Champions League final will take place on June 1 at Wembley Arena in London. Borussia’s opponent will be the winner of the Bayern – Real Madrid pair. The first match in Munich ended in a 2:2 draw.
