The organization made this decision after the injury of the current champion Artur Beterbiev
World Boxing Organization (WBO) scheduled a fight between two British boxers Anthony Yard (25-3, 24 KOs) and Joshua Buatsi (18-0, 13 KOs) for the interim world light heavyweight title.
Artur Beterbiev holds the full WBO belt in this category. The champion suffered a torn meniscus while preparing for his undisputed title fight with Dmitry Bivol. An injury to the belt holder forced the WBO to approve the title of the interim champion, who will become a mandatory challenger for the belt in the future.
Yarde and Buatsi were given 10 days to agree on a contract for the fight between themselves. If the parties fail to reach an agreement, the WBO will call for bidding to organize the fight.
Yarde’s last fight was a third-round knockout of Marko Nikolic in February. Buatsi also beat Dan Aziz by decision in the winter.
