The coach is waiting for the end of the club season
Team coach Ukraine Sergey Rebrov commented on the news about the expansion of the application list for the upcoming Euro 2024 to 26 players, and also announced the announcement of the Ukrainian team’s application for June 7.
“I know what the problem was in terms of applications from the top teams. They did not understand how to use these “extra” players in the training process and how to then “unhook” three performers from the application for a specific match. Such teams have a lot of stars, it’s difficult to work with them.”
“We don’t have such a problem. I am grateful to all the guys – both those who entered the field and those who were not included in the application. We have always remained the only team, and it is thanks to this that we qualified for Euro 2024.”
“The decision to expand the application is a plus for us. We ourselves submitted such a request to UEFA. Look how many matches Dynamo and Shakhtar are playing now. Player fatigue is inevitable. Plus injuries. Therefore, it is important to be able to quickly replace one or another performer. And in our situation, it is very difficult to simply attract a football player from Ukraine, because he needs to obtain permission to travel outside the country. Again, expanding the application to 26 players is very important for us.”
“I think that it is on June 7 that we will announce our application. Let’s see who we invite to the friendly matches that we will play before Euro 2024. There is still time before the application is formed. And the club season is still ongoing. We hope that our players will finish it without injuries. So I just don’t see the point in rushing to formulate an application and announce it before June 7.”
The Ukrainian national football team will begin preparations for the 2024 European Championship on May 30 in Nuremberg. On June 12, our national team will move west to Wiesbaden, the base city of the blue-yellows during the continental championship.
The permanent location of the Ukrainian national team at Euro 2024 will be the city of Wiesbaden, the capital of the federal state of Hesse in western Germany, located next to Mainz and Darmstadt, not far from Frankfurt.
Before this, Sergei Rebrov’s team will play three friendly matches: on June 3 with Germany (in Nuremberg), on June 7 with Poland (away) and on the 11th with Moldova in Chisinau.
At the group stage of the European Championship, the blue-yellows will successively play with the teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
Ukraine will play at the European Championships for the fourth time. The blue-and-yellows have consistently competed in the finals of the continental championship since 2012.
Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches of the European Championship will be held in arenas in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
