Mats was twice recognized as MVP of the semi-final duel with PSG, and in the return match he scored the only and winning goal
Defender Borussia Dortmund Mats Hummels recognized as the best player of the return semi-finals Champions League.
The 35-year-old footballer played the full match as usual in the center of the Bumblebees defense in the away match against Paris Saint-Germain (1:0). Borussia, despite the abundance of chances for the Parisians, managed to win again and not concede, and Hummels became the main hero of this confrontation.
In the first half, a perfect tackle from Mats prevented Kylian Mbappe from shooting into the visitors’ goal from close range. And soon after the break, the German veteran headed in Brandt’s corner kick (for this, Hummels was in contention for the title of goal scorer of the week, but lost to Alphonso Davies). In total, Mats made 5 tackles and 6 interceptions in the return semi-final.
Hummels beat Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior in the voting. Let us remind you that these same football players were competing for the award a week earlier, but then the Brazilian became the laureate.
The experienced German defender played 38 matches this season, scored four goals and provided one assist. His Borussia have already guaranteed themselves participation in the next Champions League, regardless of the result of the final against Real Madrid, which will take place on June 1 in London.
