Girona, with assists from Tsygankov and Dovbik, missed an away victory over Alaves

Artem failed to score, but consolidated his leadership using the “goal + pass” system

Girona in the last seconds missed an away victory over Alaves in the match of the 35th round of the Spanish Examples – 2:2.

In the very debut, Viktor Tsygankov scored his fifth assist of the season (in addition to the six goals he scored), accurately crossing the ball onto the head of Eric Garcia from the corner of the field. Alaves quickly bounced back: Jon Guridi shot at the goal from close range after a pass and pass from Giuliano Simeone (Giovanni’s younger brother and Diego’s son).

The hosts held the advantage for most of the first half and missed several good chances. Girona responded with sharp counterattacks, and was able to complete one of them: Tsygankov gave a short pass to Artem Dovbik, who skillfully threw it to Yankhel Herrera, who hit the goal with a powerful shot into the top corner.

Primera’s top scorer failed to increase his goal tally that evening. But Artem strengthened his leadership in the “goal + pass” system (20+7).

In the second half, Girona managed to calm the game down and generally keep it under control. Alaves for a long time could not properly strain Paulo Gassanig, but still came back in the last seconds: a corner, a rebound, and the same Guridi headed into an unprotected goal.

The draw allowed Girona to be only two points clear of Barcelona (who now have a game in hand) in the fight for second place. In the next round, Michel’s men will play Villarreal at home on May 14.

Alaves, despite the local success, remained 11th, interrupted its three-match winning streak and finally said goodbye to the hope of European competition. In the next round, the Basque team will play Real Madrid away.
