Dynamo mentor – about defeat in the championship race and plans for the near future
Head coach Dynamo Alexander Shovkovsky summed up the match against Shakhtar (0:1) and lost the championship race in Ukrainian Premier League.
“I don’t know if I guessed right or not [со стартовым составом], but, unfortunately, there is no result, so we can say that I guessed wrong. But if there had been no penalty or if there had been a free kick on Buyalsky, perhaps there would have been a different game. At the same time, we understood that Shakhtar is a good team that plays attacking football, and we need to prepare to play not only forward, but also to build our game defensively.”
“It’s a pity to lose exactly these matches, where the fate of the meeting is decided by a penalty, and a dubious one at that. There were several contradictory moments, the same foul on Buyalsky, but we have what we have. Unfortunately, we missed out on many points in the first part of the championship.”
“Plans for the summer? This is not a final press conference, but only based on the results of the match that just ended. We will draw conclusions, but later. We need to play two more matches. We prepare for every game, we develop chances, we have a plan, a strategy.”
“What do you need? There are many things to talk about that are difficult to talk about. After the end of the season, the national team will prepare for Euro 2024, there is also an Olympic team, U-19, U-21 teams. And a lot of Dynamo players will train in different teams. And we need to understand how we will prepare for the next season, because there are still a lot of questions.”
Let us remind you that today Dynamo lost to Shakhtar in the decisive battle for the championship with a minimal score in Lviv thanks to a penalty for handball by Konstantin Vicharenko, which was converted by Georgy Sudakov. This success allowed the miners to break away from their main rival by 7 points and secure the championship title ahead of schedule.
Shovkovsky’s team has two matches left to play this season: at home with Krivbass and away with Rukh. The base day for the end of the championship is May 25.
