The Miners won the UPL championship title ahead of schedule
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic said that the Miners hope to get into the group stage Champions League 2024/25 directly and not through qualifications.
“We depend on the final game between Real Madrid and Borussia. My understanding is that if Real wins, we will be in the group stage of the Champions League, which will be a fantastic achievement for us. I think we deserved to be there, not only considering our performance in the championship – the Shakhtar club itself deserves it.”
“That would be fantastic! We have already shown in the European campaign that with this squad we can compete with very good teams. I’m looking forward to this final and also to playing in the Champions League with my players.”
Shakhtar beat Dynamo in a nominally home match thanks to Georgiy Sudakov’s penalty goal. The miners broke away from their main rival by 7 points and won the championship title ahead of schedule – the 15th in history. Dynamo has one more championship left.
In the UPL, Pusic’s team has two matches left to play – both away, with Dnepr-1 and Polesie. Before this, on May 15, Shakhtar will face the Ukrainian Cup final against Vorskla. The match will be hosted by the Avangard stadium in Rivne.
