Dyakov about Karpin: “Maybe the Russian national team would have had another coach if there were official matches now”

Former Rostov player Vitaly Dyakov said that Valery Karpin might no longer work as head coach Russian national team whether the team played at international level.

– Since they were appointed head coach and he is a coach, this means that today either there is no better candidate, or they do not want to lead the national team for the sake of matches friendly. Maybe the national team would have had a different coach if there were official matches now. Karpin, as a coach, has no trophies. What happened in Rostov in recent years – the emphasis on youth, many new players appeared – is a plus for Karpin and for the coaching team. “Rostov” has chosen the right path for its development and so far they are doing very well. That year the team finished fourth and fought for bronze until the last. This one started badly, there are a lot of young people, there is no stability and there are not always results.

I was surprised by what they did in the Cup very close to the final – for some reason there was a rotation in the match with Baltika at home, when there was nothing left for what to fight for in the championship. And competing for a trophy is prestigious. I believe it was the rotation that influenced the relegation. Of course, it’s Karpin’s choice, but for me it’s strange. Everything else is natural: the place in the ranking and the fact that he coaches the national team,” Dyakov told Metaratings.ru.

The Russian national team played its last match in March; Karpin’s team defeated the Serbian national team (4:0) in a friendly match.

Currently, the Russian national team is suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA due to the situation in Ukraine.
