The Ukrainian missed three match points
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina failed to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 clay tournament in Rome (Italy).
In the 1/8 finals of the tournament, the Ukrainian lost to neutral tennis player Aryna Sabalenko. The athletes spent almost two and a half hours on the court.
In the first set, Elina made a break in the third game and then another in the seventh, after Sabalenka managed to level the score and then managed to hold on to the advantage. In the second set, the Ukrainian lost three games on her serve and was able to make only one break.
In the decisive game, a real drama unfolded, which ended not in favor of the Ukrainian. In the third set, Svitolina led 2:0, but then lost four games in a row. Sabalenka won 5:3 and served for the match at 5:4, but Elina took the 10th game at the reception, and in the 11th she won back a hidden match point. With the score 6:5, Svitoliona missed two match points on the return, leading 40:15, after which Sabalenka managed to take her serve. And in the tiebreaker, Elina also had a match point at the reception at 7:6, but lost three points in a row.
Interestingly, Svitolina played against Sabalenka for the fourth time and suffered a third defeat.
Previously, Dayana Yastremskaya, Marta Kostyuk, Lesya Tsurenko, Angelina Kalinina and Yulia Starodubtseva left the singles category of the tournament in Rome, having failed to qualify.
