The leader of Borussia Dortmund will miss the European Championship
Centerback Borussia Dortmund Mats Hummels will not compete at the upcoming European Championship 2024.
The coaching staff of the German national team decided not to call up the experienced (35 years old) defender to the national team. The coach of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann, does not plan to change his decision.
Hummels is having a strong season for the Bumblebees – four goals and one assist in 38 games. The defender was also twice recognized as the best player of the week at the semi-final stage of the Champions League, where Borussia beat PSG on aggregate and reached the final of the tournament.
At international level, Hummels played 78 games for Germany. Mats won the 2014 World Cup with the national team, and also became a European bronze medalist twice in 2012 and 2016.
At home Euro 2024, Bundesteam will compete in Group A with Switzerland, Scotland and Hungary. The German team will open the tournament with a match against Scotland on June 14.
