President of the CBF warns that he will comply with the strike, but warns: “It’s not…”

After requests to stop the calendar, CBF president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, speaks out for the first time on the subject

The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, spoke for the first time about the possibility of stopping the calendar in Brazilian football. In an interview with “Globo Esporte”, the president confirmed that he will accept the clubs’ decision, which must be for the stoppage, but he will also make a point of highlighting the influence that this will have until the end of the season.

All this is due to the public situation in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is experiencing flooding in several cities, including the capital Porto Alegre. Internacional and Grêmio have had their activities suspended for a few weeks, and are still thinking about how they will return, as they have accumulated postponed games.

It’s interesting that we can listen to all the clubs to decide. This involves the calendar, classification for South American competitions and even the Intercontinental, if a Brazilian club wins the Libertadores. It’s not that easy. But we are all democratic. After placing all these points for them to define, I can’t be opposed (to the clubs) because our management is democratic. Let’s show the contradiction of this strike, but let’s respect the clubs’ decision“, stated Ednaldo.

Afterwards, the president also asked the Ministry of Sports to take action to help clubs in the affected region: “The Minister of Sports (André Fufuca), who also requested that there be a strike… We hope that there may be some initiative from the Ministry, so that it can allocate resources that can ease the lives of loved ones. And also the reforms that the stadiums in Rio Grande do Sul immediately need.

The extraordinary session of the council created for the situation is scheduled for the 27th, when it will be decided whether or not to stop the calendar. It is worth remembering that until then, International, Youth and Grêmio will have already accumulated six games to be rescheduled for each, in addition to other lower division clubs.
