UEFA has adopted a new rule, which should restore the respect of football players for the main referees.
UEFA wants to restore respect for the main referees of football matches on the part of the players and make it impossible for match participants to put pressure on the referees. Therefore, the organization is introducing a new rule that will come into effect from the beginning of Euro 2024.
At the European Championships in Germany, referees will communicate exclusively with team captains regarding VAR decisions. This change was introduced to avoid situations where some players surrounded the referee and started putting pressure on him.
According to The Athletic, captains will be tasked with ensuring that their teammates do not approach the referee, ensuring direct communication between only the captain and the referee. Violators who show disrespect or express disagreement may be punished with a yellow card.
However, if the captain is the goalkeeper, another field player is appointed as a proxy in case of a football incident at the other end of the field.
We remind you that the European Championship will be held from June 14 to July 14 in Germany.
Earlier, the German national team player almost got injured while celebrating Borussia Dortmund’s victory.
