Gornyakov’s mentor talks about the cup final against Vorskla
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on the upcoming Ukrainian Cup finalin which his team will meet with Vorskla.
“The fact that we reached the final is a very good path. We are honored to participate in this great game. Yes, we won the championship, but we remember that the season is still ongoing and we need to win tomorrow. All our emotions will be in the final.”
“Be ahead of Dynamo in the number of trophies? For us, the motivation is, first of all, to win the final and get a trophy for the club. Perhaps for some this is an important detail, but we are looking at the trophy and would like to win this fight.”
The final match, called the “Match of Gratitude,” will take place on May 15 in Rivne at the Avangard stadium. The meeting starts at 19:00. Rivne will become the ninth city to host the Cup final, after Kyiv (18 times), Kharkov (five times), Dnipro (twice), Sumy, Poltava, Lvov, Zaporozhye and Ternopil.
The match will be shown on TV ICTV2. Commentators for the meeting will be Denis Bosyanok and Roman Bebekh. The game will be officiated by a team of referees led by Vitaly Romanov.
The current winner of the Ukrainian Cup is Dynamo, which narrowly beat Zorya in the 2021 final. In the 2021/22 season, the tournament was ended early at the 1/4 final stage due to the full-scale invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine.
In the 2022/23 season, the Ukrainian Cup was not played due to the busy schedule of the Ukrainian championship, matches of the national team and the participation of Ukrainian clubs in European cups.
Currently, Shakhtar and Dynamo are the record holders for the number of Ukrainian Cups won. There are 13 of these trophies in the museum of each club.
