Gagarin: If Krivbass reaches the group stage, we will play home matches in Germany

The vice-president of Krivbass commented on the team’s winning third place in the UPL and shared plans for the European Cup season

Vice President Krivbassa Artem Gagarin – about the third place won and the upcoming start in European competition.

“We are very pleased that just two years after entering the UPL we finished the championship with medals. And ahead of schedule too. This is a very cool result, but we hope there will be more in the future. Although now we are not in time to celebrate yet. There are two more championship games ahead – with Dynamo and Minai. And we still need to play well there. And after that there will be an award ceremony, and then we’ll celebrate everything – the medals and access to European competition.”

“Of course, we would like to play in the best tournament possible. But the most important thing for us is the opportunity to prove ourselves in Europe. We achieved our goal, and we are very happy about it. Therefore, we are now focusing on how to best prepare for this performance and adequately represent the country. And in which particular tournament we will start is not so important now.”

“Most likely, we will play a group tournament in Germany. Because the stadium that we have decided on and with which we have almost agreed will host Euro 2024 matches, and therefore will not be fully ready for the start of European Cup qualifying. If the team, God willing, reaches the group stage, we will definitely play it in Germany. I can’t name the city yet, because the papers haven’t been signed yet. And we will most likely play the qualifications in another country. I also can’t say where exactly yet, because we are still waiting for an answer.”

“Before the start of the European Cups, we will already have time to play the first round of the Ukrainian Championship. Therefore, in principle, we will not have to force the preparation for the season in any way, and the team will prepare according to the usual plan.”

Let us remind you that Krivbass guaranteed itself third place in the UPL ahead of schedule, two rounds before the finish. In the next round, Yuri Vernidub’s team will meet Dynamo on May 18.

The result of tomorrow’s Ukrainian Cup final determines which European tournament Krivbass will play in in the 2024/25 season. If Shakhtar wins the trophy, Krivoy Rog will go to the Europa League, but if Vorskla wins the Cup, it will take this slot, and the bronze medalist will be content with the Conference League.

Back in March, Gagarin said that Germany is the main destination for home matches in the event of qualifying for European competition. The club also considered options in Poland and England. In April, the Krivbass delegation visited stadiums in Dresden, Berlin, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne. The last three cities will host matches of the upcoming European Championship, which will take place from June 14 to July 14.
