“Belarus is not a weak, average team by European standards” – Tarkhanov

Former head coach of CSKA Alexander Tarkhanov believes that Belarus team will be a good opponent for Russian teams as part of a friendly match.

Earlier in May, the Russian Football Union announced that a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Belarus would take place on June 7 in Minsk and would be taken into account in the FIFA rankings.

— We have a lot of Belarusians playing. There are guys in the Urals, Lisakovich in Baltika, Martynovich. Their league is not bad. He’s a good opponent. This is not a weak, average team by European standards. I am really looking forward to this meeting and this great football,” Tarkhanov said, as quoted by Euro-Futbol.Ru.

The Russian national team was suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA due to the situation in Ukraine. For the same reason, official home matches of the Belarusian national team take place on neutral territory and without fans being allowed into the stands.
