The miners won the championship this season and won the Ukrainian Cup.
Sports director Shakhtar Darijo Srna commented on the triumph of the Donetsk club in the Ukrainian Cup, and also spoke about cooperation with team coach Marino Pusic.
“We spent a lot of emotions in the match with Dynamo, where it was the key game of the season, because the championship always comes first. But when the team held training two days after Dynamo, it was clear that we were going to Rivne for the Cup.”
“This team is a champion, this club is a champion. That’s why I, both as a football player once and as a sports director today, continue to hold gold medals. We would like to congratulate all our fans, the military who fight for our country, the football players, the coaching staff, all the people working at the club, and, of course, our president on his double. You yourself know that the beginning of the season was very difficult for us, but, fortunately, we found a coach who gave the team the opportunity to play “miner’s” football. Therefore, I am very grateful to Marino, Mario and the entire coaching staff for the emotions they have given us over the last four days.”
“Every person who understands football understands that Shakhtar has changed a lot with the arrival of Marino Pusic and his coaching staff. I want to say I’m glad he’s here. And we will all be very glad if he stays. And I am sure that he will stay with us. This is a coach who took over the team at a very difficult moment, let’s say 40 hours before the game with Barcelona, and he went through the Champions League group, won the Cup, won the championship. We can therefore congratulate him and the coaching staff for a great job over these five months.”
“Dynamo is a principled rival – always has been and will be. And I’m sure that with such a game, with such players, such a coaching staff, next year we will be at least one trophy ahead of Dynamo.”
In the Cup final, Shakhtar beat Vorskla with a score of 2:1, and in the first half, with the score 0:0, Riznyk took a one-on-one performance from Ibrahim Kane. Thanks to this success, the Pitmen surpassed Dynamo in the number of Ukrainian Cups won – 14 versus 13.
Prior to this, Pusic’s team managed to win the championship title ahead of schedule, defeating Dynamo in a head-to-head confrontation. Until the end of the season, Shakhtar has two matches left to play – both away, against Dnepr-1 and Polesie.
