While Fury was preparing for his professional debut, Usik won the European Championship, and after the Briton’s fight, he became second in the World Cup

Usyk began his professional career five years later than Fury.

WBA/WBO/IB/IBO heavyweight champion Alexander Usik one and a half years older than the WBC belt holder Tyson Fury, with whom the Ukrainian will face a unification match in the Royal Division on May 18 in Riyadh. However In the professional ring, Tyson Fury had 14 more fights than Alexander Usik. However, this is not surprising, given that Fury made his professional debut five years earlier than Usik. In the meantime, Tsygansky was preparing for his first professional fight, the Ukrainian won the European Championship and became second in the World Cup.

Fury’s amateur career is not nearly as impressive as Usik’s. Playing for the national teams of Ireland and England, the Gypsy King had 35 amateur fights, winning 31. He was a prize-winner at the world and European youth championships, and won the European Union championship. But without making it to the Olympic teams of the two countries, he won the English championship and went to the pros, where he made his debut with an early victory in the first round over the Hungarian Béla Gyöngiessy.

The Fury-Gyendyeshi fight took place on December 6, 2008. By that time, the future world champion and winner of the 2012 Olympics in the amateur category, Alexander Usik, had won bronze at the 2007 European Championship and competed at the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008), where he boxed in the heavy weight category and reached the second round.

After the Games in China, Usik lowered his weight and went to the European Championships. The championship in Liverpool, held in December 2008, became a triumph for the Ukrainian team. Our team won the overall competition, winning four gold and a bronze medal. Usik won gold in the up to 81 kg category, three more medals of the highest value were taken by Ivan Senay, Vasily Lomachenko and Georgy Chagaev. Ruslan Kapitonenko won bronze.

In Liverpool, Usik successively defeated the Russian Moskovsky, the Montenegrin Draskovic, the Turk Musaffir, the Latvian Grizunis and, in the final, the Belarusian Korneev.

But Usik did not end 2008 with the European Championship. From December 10 to 14, Alexander took part in the World Boxing Cup, held in Moscow. The athletes who scored the highest individual rating at the end of the year competed at the tournament. In addition to Usik, Lomachenko and Kapitonenko received invitations from Ukraine. The first did not enter the ring, the second lost in the first fight to the Croatian Tomasovic.

But Usik beat the Azerbaijani Alizade in the first fight, the representative of Moldova Munteana in the second, and lost to the Cuban Acosta in the final.

Before his first professional fight – in November 2013 – Usik managed to win the European Cup, bronze and gold at the World Championships, the 2012 Olympics, and win six fights in the World Series of Boxing. Alexander, like Fury, won his debut fight in the professional ring ahead of schedule, defeating Mexican Felipe Romero in the fifth round. It is noteworthy that the latter fought for another nine years, having had 20 more fights after the fight with Usyk (won five, lost 15).

After the fight with Fury, Gyendyeshi lasted six and a half years. He fought seven fights, won one, lost four, and ended in a draw in two.

The unification fight between Usik and Fury will take place on May 18. The referee in the ring for the reporting match will be Mark Nelson.

The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.

The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.

WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said there was a mandatory rematch clause in the contract. Subsequently, it became known that the second meeting in the ring between the Ukrainian and the British was scheduled for October 12-13.

Suleiman also presented a special WBC belt for which Usyk and Fury will fight. Its design uses the colors of the Ukrainian and British flags. Pope Francis has already blessed the World Boxing Council belt that will be on the line in the title fight.
