Varfolomeev explained how Torop should have behaved to avoid injury

Former Zénith footballer Sergei Varfolomeev said that the CSKA goalkeeper Vladislav Torop had to defend himself in an episode with a collision with Zenit player Nuraly Alip.

CSKA in the second leg of the Russian Cup final RPL FONBET lost to Zenit: regular time ended with a score of 0:0, penalties – 4:5. In the first half, Army goalkeeper Torop collided with defender Alip and left the field in an electric car. The 20-year-old guard was diagnosed with multiple facial skull fractures and a severe concussion.

— When I played football, goalkeepers were taught to go out of the goal like this: hit the ball with one hand, put the knee forward, shout loudly “I am!” You will then not be injured and, in the worst case, your opponent will come away with a slight bruise. And Torop, of course, revealed himself, did not defend himself in any way, it was his fault that this happened.

We can only sympathize with the CSKA goalkeeper. Alip didn’t see anything, he was flying with his back to him and the CSKA goalkeeper opened his whole body. Play with one hand, with your knee, and nothing will happen. You had to cover yourself, group up, leave a hand to protect yourself. This is what the old Soviet school taught,” Varfolomeev said, as quoted by RB Sport.
