Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep Croatian
Real started negotiations with the midfielder Luka Modric about a new contract.
Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep the experienced Croatian in the squad. Luka will be offered a one-year agreement until the summer of 2025.
The 38-year-old player’s current contract with the club, which he extended last summer, expires on June 30. The Croatian veteran has plenty of options to continue his career, but Modric himself is inspired by his recent performances for Real Madrid and believes that he can be an important part of the playing mechanism of Carlo Ancelotti’s team for some time to come.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia have been interested in Luka for a long time – in particular, the Croatian received an offer during the winter transfer window. There is also the option of returning to Dinamo Zagreb.
In February, Ancelotti invited the player to join the Blancos coaching staff at the end of the season. However, Luka made the final decision to refuse, as his priority remains the continuation of his playing career. Subsequently, the Italian coach said that Modric’s future is in his hands, and the quality of the minutes he spends on the field is more important than their quantity.
The experienced footballer is not a solid player for the Blancos starting team this season. However, he has already played 43 matches in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.
Modric’s recent appearances for Los Blancos have been inspiring. He strengthened his team’s performance twice, coming on as a substitute in the quarter-final matches against Manchester City (3:3, 1:1 and victory on penalties), and also played a full match against Barcelona in El Clasico (3:2).
Real Madrid, for which Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrei Lunin is having a powerful season, clinched the La Liga title ahead of schedule. Ancelotti’s team will also play in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
