The mentor will lead Lviv for the ninth season
Athletic extended contract with head coach Ernesto Valverde for one year. Together with their mentor, the Lions extended their agreements with his coaching staff.
Valverde will be in his ninth season at the helm of Athletic. Ernesto began his coaching career with the Lviv youth teams back in 1997, gradually reaching the status of head coach. In addition to the Basque club, the mentor worked with Espanyol, Olympiacos, Valencia and Barcelona.
Together with Athletic, Valverde won the 2016 Spanish Super Cup. This season, the Lions, under his leadership, won the Spanish Cup, beating Mallorca in the final.
Athletic takes fifth place in La Liga with 62 points. In the next round, Valverde’s team will host Sevilla on May 19.
