On the way to the final, Olga beat the same Smirnova, whose hand she did not shake at the 2023 World Cup
Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan took second place at the stage World Cup saber fencing, which took place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria).
On the way to the final, Harlan beat the “neutral” athlete Anna Smirnova (the same one she refused to shake hands with at the 2023 World Cup), Italians Eloise Passaro and Rossella Gregorio, and also, in a tense battle (15:13), Japanese Misaki Emura.
In the decisive confrontation, Olga lost (8:15) to the number one in the world ranking, the Frenchwoman Sarah Balzer, who won her third victory at the World Cup stages in the 2024 season.
The award in Plovdiv became the fourth goal for the Ukrainian fencer at the World Cup level. Let us remember that earlier she won silver in Algeria, triumphed in Lima and became a bronze medalist in Athens.
Kharlan is the 2008 Olympic champion in team saber, medalist of the Games in 2012 and 2016. Olga will also take part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
