Pharmacists went through the championship undefeated, losing only 12 points
Bayer won a home victory over Augsburg in the 34th round Bundesliga and finished the championship without defeat – 2:1.
The reigning champion secured the result before the break. The visiting goalkeeper Tomas Koubek helped him in this, giving the ball to Amin Adli in his goalkeeper’s area. Victor Boniface took pleasure in shooting at someone else’s goal. Robert Andrich doubled the score with a back-heel strike, successfully ambushing the rebound after a set piece.
Augsburg returned the intrigue after an hour of play: a beautiful shot from the penalty line was successful by young Mert Kemur. Until the end of the game, both teams had chances to score, the Pharmacists were especially zealous in their spending, but the score remained unchanged.
Bayer put the first point in this phenomenal season, going through the championship without defeat and losing only 12 points over the entire distance. Augsburg had been contending for European competition for a long time, but failed to finish in the Bundesliga, suffering five defeats in a row.
Xabi Alonso’s team has two finals left to play: May 22 against Atalanta in the Europa League and three days later against Kaiserslautern in the German Cup.
