Vernidub: The team played well. But Dynamo were luckier. If not for this incomprehensible penalty…

The Krivbass mentor, despite some nuances, is pleased with the performance demonstrated by his players

Head coach Krivbassa Yuri Vernidub commented on the defeat from Dynamo (1:3) in a spectacular away match of the 29th round Ukrainian Premier League.

“It was a good game by both teams. Moreover, everyone understood that neither Krivbass nor Dynamo would rise higher. Dynamo started playing with three defenders. We saw this and rebuilt. It so happened that we conceded two quick goals. But later they scored one in response. We looked good in both halves. Dynamo usually dominates against their opponents, but this time we forced them to play on the counterattack.”

“Krivbass wanted to win back, but it didn’t work out. We gave young guys a chance to prove themselves today: Bogdan Foma, Vladimir Vilivald, Yaroslav Shevchenko. Ahead is the last match against Minaya. I think we’ll give other young people a chance. Krivbass U-19 has very good performers. They must grow. Dynamo, for example, also has a very good academy, its students play; this is the best football school in Ukraine.”

“The team played well. But Dynamo were luckier. If it weren’t for this incomprehensible penalty… There is a fight shoulder to shoulder, a person falls – a penalty. I watched this episode five times. I didn’t see a penalty there. Then they immediately missed the second one. But I’m pleased with how the team reacted: they scored a goal, there were still good chances.”

“I will do everything in my power to ensure that we grow every year. Why then work as a coach if you don’t have a goal? The UPL is growing, that’s a fact. Look at the competition we have for every position until the last round.”

Let us remind you that Krivbass conceded two goals by the sixth minute. The scoring was opened after the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Andrei Yarmolenko. The guests soon pulled one goal back through the efforts of Yegor Tverdokhleb; they attacked a lot during the match and had chances to level the score, but missed the third in the end.

Krivbass took third place in the UPL ahead of schedule and will play in the Europa League qualification next season. In the last round of the current championship, the Vernidub team will take on the survival fighter Minai.
