Unmotivated Rossoneri with a suboptimal composition lost to an opponent eager for European competition
Milan gave in without a chance Torino in the away match of the 27th round of the Italian Serie A – 1:3.
The Rossoneri no longer solved any tournament problems – Pioli’s team guaranteed themselves second place in advance. Therefore, the coach used a rotation, leaving Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria, Rafael Leau and Olivier Giroud in reserve (the latter two subsequently came on as substitutes).
The Bulls, who continue to fight for a place in European competition, spent the first half more actively and, as a result, secured a solid two-goal handicap. Both goals were scored with headers from flank crosses. And if Duvan Zapata did this in a fight with a defender, then absolutely no one interfered with Ivan Ilic.
In the first seconds after the break, the score became devastating: former Milan defender Ricardo Rodriguez, who had earlier provided an assist, hit the top corner with a long-range shot.
Milan quickly won one goal back – Ismael Bennacer converted a penalty for a tackle on Christian Pulisic. But, as it turned out, it was just a prestige goal, although at least Leau was close to scoring the second.
Pioli’s team remained in second place and will not go anywhere from it. Torino overtook Napoli and moved close to eighth-placed Fiorentina, but the Violets have a match in hand.
In the last round, Milan will host long-relegated Salernitana, and the Turin team will visit Atalanta.
