Never in his career has Tyson missed as many punches as he did from Alexander – 170
The complete statistics of the strikes inflicted in the unification fight for the title of absolute world champion in heavyweight, in which the Ukrainian Alexander Usik defeated the British Tyson Fury by a split decision.
If you look at the total number of punches thrown, there is a clear advantage for Fury – 496:407. However, at the same time, Usik was much more accurate – 170 hits (41.8% efficiency) versus 157 (31.7%). Never before had the “Gypsy King” missed so many punches in one fight; the previous record (127) belonged to Otto Wallin.
Tyson attacked with jabs much more often – 286 times, almost twice as many as his opponent (147). If we talk about hits on target, then here too Fury has the advantage – 62:48. But, again, the Ukrainian was more accurate in short shots – 32.7% versus 21.7%.
Usyk, in turn, surpassed his opponent in the number of powerful blows – both in total (260:210) and in accuracy (122:95, efficiency is 1.7% higher).
If you look at the rounds, then the battle can be clearly divided into two halves. In five of the first six rounds (except the second), the “Gypsy King” surpassed his opponent in the number of strikes that reached the target. But in each of the subsequent rounds, Usyk hit more often. If after the first half of the fight Fury was in the lead in hits 95:70, then the second half was entirely behind the Ukrainian – 100:62.
The picture of accurate powerful punches in the last three rounds (10-12) is especially eloquent – 36:15 in favor of Usik.
Let us remember that on the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). In the ninth round, Alexander knocked down the “Gypsy King” deeply, and only the referee’s intervention prevented the fight from ending ahead of schedule. As a result, the victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
Alexander is the second boxer in history after Evander Holyfield, who was the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Also, the Ukrainian boxer became the third (after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue) in the era of four prestigious titles to become the absolute champion in two weight categories.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The Chairman of the General Authority of Entertainment of Saudi Arabia, Turki Al al-Sheikh, stated that the rematch between Alexander and Tyson is scheduled for October 12-13 in Riyadh.
