The Union of European Football Associations made another surprising decision in support of the aggressor country.
UEFA fined the Lithuanian Football Federation and punished the country’s women’s team with two technical defeats.
The Union of European Football Associations imposed this strict decision due to the main refusal of the national team to play against the Belarusians in the 2025 European qualifying matches. The website of the Lithuanian Football Federation reports this.
Let’s remember that the Lithuanian football players are supposed to meet with the representatives of the aggressor country on May 31 and June 4. For now, these games have been officially cancelled. In the same match, Lithuania lost with a score of 0:3. In addition, the federation was fined 5 thousand euros.
Lithuanian football leadership called this UEFA decision predictable. In addition, the LFF said that they do not regret the decision to abandon the game against the aggressor country.
“Finally, this issue has been officially resolved, and now we can hope that we have received the punishments that we can imagine, and most importantly, our team has not been blocked from qualifying for the European Championship and play the last two matches there, we can also think about the second place in the group and the possibility of advancing to the next stage.
Here monetary penalties and fines are not the main thing; it is important to reiterate the federation’s position on war and aggressors,” said LFF President Edgaras Stankevicius.
We remind you that Belarusian clubs and national teams, unlike Russian ones, have received permission from UEFA to participate in international tournaments. For some reason, the Union of European Football Associations did not want to notice the aggression of Belarus against the Ukrainians.
We remind you that previously UEFA only allowed team captains to contact the referees at Euro 2024 will be given a yellow card.
