Arsenal failed to win a single trophy, except for the pre-season Super Cup, and Alexander lost his place in the team during the season
Defender Arsenal Alexander Zinchenko summed up the club season 2023/24 performed by his team, and also critically assessed his own performances.
“I’m proud of the team and happy to be one of you, Gunners!”
“The club season is now over and unfortunately we didn’t get what we wanted, but I am confident that this club is on the right track to achieve everything. Personally, I understand perfectly well that this was not my best season, and I promise, first of all, to all the fans and doubters that I will return much stronger. Thank you so much for your strong support and see you soon.”
Let’s remember that Arsenal had a tiring title race with Manchester City this season and still lost it in the last round, two points behind the Citizens. In the Champions League, the Gunners finished at the quarter-final stage, losing to Bayern on aggregate (2:2 0:1).
Mikel Arteta’s team failed to get hold of cup trophies – it was eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round, and from the League Cup at the 1/8 final stage. And yet, the season for Arsenal was not complete without trophies – back in August they won the English Super Cup against Manchester City on penalties.
27-year-old Zinchenko played 35 matches in all tournaments last season, scored one goal and provided two assists. In the spring part of the season, the Ukrainian lost his place in the starting lineup, not least because of an injury that kept him out of action for about a month in February.
The club season for Alexander is over, and in the near future he will leave with the Ukrainian national team for a preparatory training camp before the 2024 European Championship. The blue-and-yellows will begin preparations for the European Championship on May 30 in Nuremberg. On June 12, our national team will move west to Wiesbaden, the base city of the blue-yellows during the continental championship.
The head coach of the national team, Sergei Rebrov, has already announced the team’s preliminary application for the continental championship. Its final version will be announced on June 7.
Before this, Sergei Rebrov’s team will play three friendly matches: on June 3 with Germany (in Nuremberg), on June 7 with Poland (away) and on the 11th with Moldova in Chisinau.
