The legendary coach returned to Sardinia 31 years later and first returned the team to Serie A, and then successfully solved the problem of survival in the elite
Cagliari officially announced that the 72-year-old Claudio Ranieri will leave his position as head coach at the end of the season.
The club dedicated a large text of gratitude to the legendary mentor, full of words of gratitude for the quality work he carried out at the Sardinian club over two spells that were separated by more than three decades.
It was in Cagliari that Ranieri began his full-time coaching career in the late 80s. Further on his record were: Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia (twice), Atlético, Chelsea, Parma, Juventus, Roma (twice), Inter, Monaco, the Greek national team, Leicester, Nantes, Fulham, Sampdoria and Watford. He became the sensational champion of England in 2016, and also won the Italian and Spanish Cups and the UEFA Super Cup.
The most experienced coach returned to Sardinia 31 and a half years later, during the 2022/23 season. Under his leadership, Cagliari immediately solved the problem of returning to Serie A, defeating first Parma and then Bari in the playoffs.
This season, Rossoblu fought for survival and successfully solved this problem one round before the finish. The team’s last match under Ranieri will be at home against Fiorentina on May 23.
