Nadal: It is very likely that I will not return to Roland Garros, but my goal is to compete here at the 2024 Olympics

The Spaniard played at the Grand Slam tournament after a long break and was eliminated in the first round

Rafael Nadal commented on his unsuccessful performance at Roland Garros 2024 and shared his plans for the near future.

“It’s hard to say what will happen in the future. There is a high probability that I will not return here to Roland Garros. But I can’t say 100%. And, if it was the last time, then I liked it. The crowd has been amazing throughout the week of preparation and today.”

“I really enjoy playing here, I travel with my family, I enjoy it, and my body feels a little better now than it did two months ago. Maybe in two months I’ll say: “That’s enough, I can’t give anything more,” but I don’t feel it yet.”

“I have some goals for myself, I hope to be back on this court for the Olympics, that motivates me. This will be another chance and I really hope I will be well prepared.”

Let us remind you that today 37-year-old Nadal lost to Alexander Zverev in three sets in the first round of Roland Garros 2024. For the former world ranking leader, it was his first Grand Slam appearance in 16 months, following his exit from the 2023 Australian Open. Raphael left the French Open at a very early stage in his career. Previously, he had never been eliminated from here earlier than in the third round.

From 2005 to 2022, the Spaniard won Roland Garros 14 times (a record result). In total, Nadal has 22 victories in Grand Slam singles tournaments (the second most in history).

Nadal entered the Roland Garros 2024 application using a “protected rating”. Since the beginning of 2023, Rafael has missed almost a year due to injuries. This season, his greatest achievements were the quarterfinals in Brisbane (January) and the 1/8 finals of the thousandth in Madrid (April).
