The Blues will pay Leicester compensation
Chelsea and mentor Leicester Enzo Maresca agreed on an employment agreement.
The coach will sign a contract until the end of June 2029. There is also an option to extend the contract for another season.
Chelsea will pay monetary compensation to the Foxes. It was reported that Leicester would receive a €10 million early termination clause for the departure of their coach, which is valid until June 2026.
Earlier, Chelsea officially announced the termination of the contract by mutual consent with Mauricio Pochettino. Along with the Argentine specialist, his assistants Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Tony Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino (Mauricio’s son) will also leave the club.
Maresca will take charge of Leicester in the summer of 2023. Under his leadership, Leicester won the Championship and returned to the English Premier League.
During his football career, Maresca managed to play for a number of clubs, including Juventus, Seville, Olympiacos, Fiorentina and Sampdoria. As part of the Old Lady, Maresca became the champion of Italy in 2002 and won the country’s Super Cup in 2003. With Nervontsi, the Italian won the UEFA Cup in 2006 and 2007, and also won the 2006 UEFA Super Cup, the 2007 Spanish Cup and the 2007 Super Cup.
Chelsea, which features Ukrainian Mikhail Mudrik, took sixth place in the Premier League. The Blues will play in the Conference League qualifiers next season.
