Georgy hopes that a successful performance at Euro 2024 will bring his transition to the top championship closer
Midfielder Shakhtar And Ukrainian national team Georgy Sudakov spoke about his desire and readiness to play English Premier League.
“I told Misha (Mudryk) about how much I want to play in the Premier League and how great it would be to play in the same team. Misha told me that I am not ready for the kind of pressure that is happening in England, and if I come, I need to be ready for it. But I’m ready.”
“Oh, the Premier League is my dream. It would be great to play there for one of the top clubs. I can’t single out any of them as a priority, they’re all well-known clubs. As Pep Guardiola said, winning the Premier League is more difficult than winning the Champions League.”
“My attitude is this: I have achieved everything I am capable of at Shakhtar, I have developed as much as possible as a player and am ready to move forward. I hope to show what I can do at the Euros and then my future can be decided.”
“Today there is no safe place in Ukraine. Everyone is afraid. It’s morally difficult. Every time my daughter hears sirens, she runs to hide under the covers. It’s hard to accept. I have the opportunity to move my family outside of Ukraine,” admitted Georgy.
21-year-old Sudakov played 34 matches for Shakhtar in all competitions of the 2023/24 season, scored 10 goals and provided six assists. As part of the Ukrainian national team in the qualifying round for the 2024 European Championship, Georgy became one of the key performers: he played in every match from the first minutes, and was replaced only in three out of ten cases. In total, he has one goal and three assists in 14 matches for the national team.
Over the past months, there has been talk about the midfielder’s possible move to a top championship. In February, Shakhtar officially extended the contract with Sudakov. The new agreement is valid until December 31, 2028. The clause of the 21-year-old footballer’s contract is 150 million euros.
In March, Georgy said that in the winter, Shakhtar received offers from Juventus and Napoli. It was also reported that the midfielder’s entourage is in talks with Manchester City, Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern.
Not long ago, Chelsea and Tottenham held negotiations with George’s representatives. Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin stated that Sudakov would definitely move to a top European club in the summer. According to the latest information, the Miners want to sell Sudakov after Euro 2024 and expect to get about 70 million euros for him.
Shakhtar achieved the “golden double”, winning the UPL and the Ukrainian Cup. Ukraine will play in Quartet E with Slovakia, Romania and Belgium at Euro 2024. The continental championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14.
