16 years after his debut, Edison Cavani has decided to stop representing Uruguay on the international stage.
Edinson Cavani has decided to stop playing for the Uruguayan national team. The 37-year-old announced that he will end his career with the two-time world champions immediately after the 2024 Copa America.
“I won’t take much time. Now my words are few but deep. Thank you to every person who has been a part of this journey over the years.
I have been and will always be lucky to wear this jersey that represents what I love most in this world – my country.
Undoubtedly, these were good years. I have a thousand things to say, say and remember, but I want to dedicate now the new phase of my career and give everything I have to where I need to be now.
I decided to step aside, but my heart was still beating like it was when it was my turn on the field in that beautiful jersey. Big hugs to all my fans,” Cavani wrote.

Remember that Edinson Cavani made his debut for the national team of Uruguay in February 2008. In 136 appearances for the Sky Blues, the 37-year-old forward scored 58 goals and 17 assists. He won the Copa America with Uruguay in 2011.
