The coach of the Ukrainian U-17 national team summed up the results of the unsuccessful Euro 2024
Head coach Ukrainian national team U-17 Yuriy Moroz commented on the disappointing results of the group stage for his team European Youth Championship 2024.
“If we analyze what happened, it seems to me that the guys burned out in terms of their attitude to the game, in terms of team interaction on the field. There were many incomprehensible mistakes in simple situations; we often lost in the fight. There was even some nervousness, and this, apparently, was reflected in the final result of our performance.”
“Despite this, you shouldn’t cover your head with ashes, what happened, what happened, time cannot be returned. We need to draw the right conclusions and move on.”
“If a team loses, all players have questions, but if they win, there are practically no complaints. Almost everything depends on the final result. Of course, we would like some positions to be better strengthened, and not so much by high-quality performers, but by football players with superior anthropometric data. But at the same time, I cannot say that this Ukrainian team was poorly equipped. These were by far the best performers of their age. To say that we missed someone or didn’t take someone for some reason is definitely not.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian national team at the 2024 Youth European Championship lost its chances for the playoffs after the first two rounds. In the first meeting, the blue-yellows lost to Serbia (0:1), and then lost to their peers from the Czech Republic with a score of 1:3.
After that, Moroz’s team beat Cyprus (the host country of the continental championship) with a score of 2:0 and finished in third place in Group A.
Meanwhile, the quarterfinals have already taken place at the Youth European Championship. In the semi-final matches on June 2, Serbia will face Portugal, while Denmark will face Italy. The championship final will take place on June 5.
