Promoted with Leganés to the Spanish first division in 2023/24, player accumulates three other promotions to LALIGA EA Sports
Being promoted to a division is not easy in any championship. The second division of Spanish football is one of the most difficult due to its equality and competitiveness. However, there is one player who seems to be an amulet for teams looking to qualify for the elite: Francisco Portillo. The midfielder of Leganes secured classification for the LALIGA EA Sportsthis time also lifting the trophy of champion of LALIGA HYPERMOTION.
This is the fourth time that Portillo has guaranteed a team to qualify for the country’s elite. After passing through the basic categories of the Malagaeven playing for Champions League in 2012/13, in 2015 the player went to Real Betis as reinforcement for a possible promotion, which happened. In 2016, he went to the recently relegated Getafewhere he reunited with old teammates and became a key player in moving up to the first division again through the playoffs, against Tenerife.
Portillo spent five seasons there, until his contract ended and he went to UD Almería. There, he also secured promotion in his first season and ensured that the team remained in the first division. In 2023, he was released and signed a contract with Leganés, where he achieved another classification for the Spanish elite.
