According to information Sports Arena ex-coach Ukrainian national teamand now an employee Ukrainian Football Association Mauro Tassotti may join the coaching staff Paulo Fonsecawhen he takes over Milan.
Also, the Portuguese specialist’s headquarters will include some of Shakhtar’s ex-coaches, who assisted Paulo at the Donetsk club.
Fonseca is considered the main contender to become Milan’s new head coach following the departure of Stefano Pioli. Back in mid-May, it was reported that the Italian giants wanted to offer the 51-year-old coach a two-year contract, and the Portuguese himself confirmed his readiness to lead the Red-Blacks. Today Fonseca officially parted ways with Lille, who coached for the last two years.
Previously, the mentor worked in such clubs as Porto, Braga, Shakhtar and Roma. In both the Donetsk and French clubs, his assistants were Tiago Leal (analyst, scout) and Antonio Ferreira (goalkeeping coach).
Tassotti had never worked with Fonseca before. The 64-year-old Italian is a Milan legend: 17 years as a player, 14 as an assistant to head coaches (Fatiha Terima, Carlo Ancelotti, Leonardo, Massimiliano Allegri, Clarence Seedorf, Philip Inzaghi).
Subsequently, Mauro worked as an assistant to Andrei Shevchenko in the Ukrainian national team (2016 – 2021) and Genoa (2021 – 2022). In March 2024, it became known that the experienced Italian received a new position in the Ukrainian Football Association, becoming, along with Sergei Rebrov, the deputy of the new UAF president on the national teams committee.
