In 2023, Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time. The 36-year-old Argentine was ahead of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the fight for the best player of the year award.
Also at the event, the Kop Trophy (best young player award) was won by Jude Bellingham, Emiliano Martinez won the Yashin Trophy and Erling Haaland won the top scorer award. Manchester City and Barcelona were recognized as the best men’s and women’s football clubs.
