Sudakov: I feel almost ready. I think I will be completely ready for the fight with Romania

On June 11, the blue-yellows will have a sparring match with Moldova, and on the 17th, Rebrov’s team will play the first match at the European Championships

Midfielder Ukrainian national team Georgy Sudakov spoke about the reasons for the defeat from Poland in a control match, and also assessed the degree of his readiness for European Championship 2024 against the backdrop of recent damage.

“It’s difficult to say what the main reason for the defeat is. They probably lost concentration somewhere during the standards. We missed two quick goals, and then a third. After something like that, it’s hard to come to your senses and even the score. But we showed a decent game, although we are aware that the result is important for everyone. However, we are preparing for the Euro and we understand that the match was a friendly one. First of all, we must prepare for the opening match against Romania.”

“As for the very structure of our game, we cannot say that we played poorly. Two corners played a key role. When you’re down 0-3 in the 30th minute, it’s hard to level up.”

“In the first half, the Poles started to press high, and we had a lot of turnovers in simple situations. I think we needed to play more vertically. When we rebuilt, we already had three good opportunities in the first half. Chances began to appear when we started playing behind their backs. We should have improved these components right away.”

“Despite the recent injury, I feel almost ready. There are a few more days, then the match with Moldova. Then, I think, I will be completely ready for the fight with Romania.”

Let us remind you that Sudakov joined the training camp of the Ukrainian national team with minor injury. He did not take part in the group exercises of Sergei Rebrov’s team at the first German training session, and in the first June sparring against the German national team on June 3 (0:0) he played only 18 minutes.

On June 7 against Poland (1:3), Georgiy started and spent 80 minutes on the field. The blue-and-yellows failed in the opening half hour of the match, conceding three unanswered goals during this period (two of them after set pieces). Closer to the break, Artem Dovbik scored one goal, but Ukraine could not score more.

Rebrov’s team will play the final control match in Chisinau against Moldova. The fight will take place on Tuesday, June 11. The next day, the Ukrainian team will move to Wiesbaden, its base city during the continental championship.

At the group stage of the 2024 European Championship, the blue-yellows will play against the national teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
