Gvozdyk: Many people avoid Benavidez, obviously he is one of the best fighters in the world

The Ukrainian is preparing for the fight, which will take place on June 15

Former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk considers “interim” WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez one of the most dangerous fighters in the world.

“He’s a big guy – he also said he feels more comfortable at 175, but we’ll see. I rate him very highly because he is one of the best in boxing. He’s “The Monster” and he’s one of the most avoided fighters for a reason. If he was like a piece of cake, everyone would want to fight him. But for some reason no one does, so he’s obviously one of the best fighters in boxing.”

“The victories of Usyk, Bogachuk, Lomachenko and Berinchyk are good. It makes me remember those cool moments at the Olympics when we all fought together and won together. I hope I continue this series. Of course, I want to encourage my people, especially in difficult times for Ukraine.”

The fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez for the vacant WBC interim light heavyweight title will take place on the night of June 15-16, approximately at 5:00 Kyiv time.

The event will be hosted by Las Vegas, with a boxing evening scheduled at the Grand Garden Arena. The fight between Alexander and David will take place on the undercard of the confrontation between WBA champion Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin.

Benavidez, 27, fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round. David spent his last few fights in the super middleweight division (up to 168 pounds or 76.2 kg). For the fight with Gvozdyk, he moves up to the light heavyweight category (up to 175 pounds or 79.4 kg).

Gvozdyk knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Prior to this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.
