The blue-yellow coach believes that his team, despite the complicating factors, is capable of demonstrating an excellent result at the Euro
Head coach Ukrainian national team Sergey Rebrov before your team starts European Championship 2024 shared his expectations from the tournament, talked about his team’s style and desire to achieve maximum results.
“Before which Euro were they not expecting a high result from Ukraine? They always think that Ukraine is a football country, and I absolutely agree with this. But there are other factors – war, long journeys, very large additional loads on the players that we must take into account. However, like the fans, I believe that we have a very good team and we will try to achieve the maximum at this Euro.”
“We have a young team, but I don’t see a problem here. I think that for all teams it is very important to have a balance between experienced players and young ones who give more energy on the field. And I think that we have this balance in our team: we have both experienced guys and talents for whom this is the first big tournament in their lives.”
“Rebrov’s playing style? I believe that speed is very important for modern football. You will see the rest in Euro. At the national team level, the best players from their countries are gathered, so sometimes you have to adapt to your opponent. Injuries also happen. Therefore, it is very important for our team to show that it understands how to play within a different scheme. We showed this in the qualifying round, and I am convinced that we will demonstrate this at the Euro.”
“All the competitors at the Euro are very strong, and it was not for nothing that the Romanian team took first place in its qualifying group. So we have respect for her and the other teams in the group, but we need to focus on our game first. Romania has plenty of bright players. Almost everyone plays abroad, in good clubs, so I have a lot of respect for my opponents.”
“I think this team has really great potential, but in itself it doesn’t mean anything. At such a tournament you need to show your best. If we want to achieve anything, we need to show our best level in every game.”
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian national team has begun preparations for the European Championship in Herzogenauerach, Germany. From June 3 to 11, Rebrov’s team played three test matches – with Germany in Nuremberg (0:0), in Warsaw with Poland (1:3) and in Chisinau with Moldova (4:0).
On June 12, the blue-and-yellows moved to Wiesbaden, the capital of the federal state of Hesse in western Germany, located next to Mainz and Darmstadt, not far from Frankfurt. This city became the base city for Rebrov’s team during the continental championship.
The Ukrainian national team was in group E. At the group stage of the 2024 European Championship, the blue-yellows will play with the teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
The European Championship starts today, June 14, at 22:00 Kyiv time, with the match Germany – Scotland. It will be served by a French brigade under the command of Clément Turpin.
Three Euro 2024 games are scheduled for the next day. Hungary and Switzerland will start their match at 16:00, Spain and Croatia at 19:00. Italy and Albania will play at 22:00.
