The Ukrainian scorer objectively assessed his chances in competition with Holland
Forward Girona And Ukrainian national team Artem Dovbik shared his plans for the future and discussed hypothetical competition with Erling Holland from Manchester city.
“I understand that I’m 26 now and will be 27. And if such a season has been successful, then we need to take a step forward. I want to make a decision that will be good for me in football terms and for my family. There are proposals, I just don’t want to talk about them, because there is already so much information in the media.”
“Manchester City are Manchester City, they have a plan for several years. Holland is their project, which will last for several years, so I don’t see any options yet for going to the City. Even if there is such an offer. I don’t want to go there and be the second striker. Haaland is the top striker in the world at the moment. Of course, I want to go and compete with him, but his age and the fact that he’s a City project means there’s no chance.”
“Until you make a choice, everything is just beginning. The transfer window has just opened,” the Ukrainian striker emphasized.
Let us remember that Dovbik moved from Dnepr-1 to the Catalan club in August last year and had a phenomenal season. Artem became La Liga’s top goal scorer with 24 goals and also provided 10 assists, and Girona sensationally finished in the top 3 and qualified for the Champions League for the first time in history.
Dovbik became one of the 15 winners included in the final list of the “Team of the 2023/24 season” in La Liga, and also claimed the prize for the best player of the championship, but lost it to Jude Bellingham from Real Madrid. Artem was subsequently named Girona’s best player for the 2023/24 season.
Dovbik’s current contract with Girona runs until 2028. Atlético Madrid is considered the favorite in the race for the player – it was reported that Matrasniki had already agreed on a personal contract with the striker and were ready to pay the Catalan club a clause of 40 million euros.
However, the Madrid club is far from the only contender for the Ukrainian. The other day it became known about Milan’s interest in Artem. The Rossoneri have been communicating directly with representatives of the Ukrainian national team player for more than a month, and Dovbik’s candidacy was personally approved by the Red-Blacks’ management consultant on selection policy, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Also in the race for the player is Napoli, which has offered Girona 35 million.
Dovbik is preparing to take part in Euro 2024 as part of the Ukrainian national team. The opening match of the tournament is today, at 22:00, Germany and Scotland will play. The blue-yellow match of the first round will be played against Romania on June 17th.
