The opening round will feature the matches Mallorca – Real Madrid, Valencia – Barcelona, Betis – Girona and Villarreal – Atletico Madrid
La Liga officially presented the calendar season 2024/25. As previously reported, the Spanish championship in the elite division starts in mid-August and ends at the end of May.
In the first round (base day – Sunday, August 18), the strongest four teams from the previous draw will play away. All of them will be tested by strong opponents: champion Real Madrid will visit Mallorca, Barcelona will play Valencia at Mestalla, Girona will host Betis, and Atletico will travel to Villarreal.
As for the iconic confrontations, El Clasico is scheduled for the 11th and 35th rounds. Accordingly, Real Madrid will host Barcelona on the weekend of October 27, and the “return” match will take place on the base day of May 11.
Other base dates for important duels are:
- Derby Madrileño (Atlético – Real Madrid) – September 29 and February 9;
- Seville Derby – October 6 and March 30;
- Basque derby (Athletic – Real Sociedad) – November 24 and May 4;
- Barcelona vs Atlético Madrid – December 22 and March 16.
One participant for the 2024/25 season is still undecided. Espanyol and Oviedo are vying for the vacant 20th place. The latter is in pole position after a minimal home win (1:0) in the first final leg of the La Liga 2 playoffs. The return match in Barcelona will take place on June 23.
Let us remember that Real Madrid triumphed in La Liga last season. The second was Barcelona, the third – the sensational Girona of Ukrainians Artem Dovbik and Viktor Tsygankov. The capital’s Atletico closed the top 4. We left Primera Cadiz, Almeria and Granada. Leganes and Valladolid were promoted directly from La Liga 2.
