The partners were able to congratulate Ronaldo and Pepe on their unique achievements
Portugal replayed in dramatic style Czech Republic in the first round European Championship 2024losing during the meeting – 2:1.
Roberto Martinez’s team had an overwhelming advantage throughout the match, but the Czechs successfully held back their attacking efforts.
An hour of play had barely passed when Ivan Hasek’s team took the lead with the very first shot on target. The shot was brilliant – from outside the penalty area, off the post. It was caused by Lukash Provod.
Very soon the favorite won back. The goal was curious – Jiri Stanek deflected Nuno Mendes’s shot into the foot of Robin Granac, from which the ball bounced into the goal.
For a long time, the Lusitanians’ attempts to snatch victory remained in vain. In the 87th minute, Diogo Jota still scored, finishing off the ball that bounced off the post after Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot, but the goal was canceled due to the legend being offside.
And yet, the favorite achieved his goal: in the second minute of stoppage time, Pedro Neto’s cross was extremely unsuccessfully interrupted by the same Granaz, and Francisco Conceicao, who came running, shot into the goal.
The partners were able to congratulate Ronaldo on his unique achievement – the 39-year-old forward made history by playing at the sixth European Championship. At the same time, 41-year-old defender Pepe became the oldest football player to take to the field in the history of the European Championship.
In the next round on June 22, Portugal will play Turkey, which previously beat Georgia 3:1.
