Lucescu: Dynamo players understand what kind of match awaits us tomorrow

The beginning of the first match between Dynamo and Sturm is at 21:00 Kyiv time

Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu commented on the first match of the third qualifying stage Champions League against the Austrian Sturm.

The Romanian mentor focused on the readiness of Sturm, who has already played two official matches in the Austrian championship.

“It will not be an easy game for us. We expect a tough confrontation in the European tournament. The whole team understands what kind of fight awaits us tomorrow – for the image of the country, for their popularity. All teams playing in European competitions are very well prepared, and participation in these tournaments is a great motivation for every player.”

“Sturm has already played two official matches in its championship, they have already entered the competitive rhythm and have an advantage over us. Our opponents are a very good team, with a good organization of the game, the players know what to do on the field. So it won’t be easy for us.”

“We play at home, but not quite at home. It’s a shame that there are no Ukrainian journalists now – and it’s terrible. Tomorrow will be a similar situation. There will be Ukrainian women and children in the stands, and men do not have the right to leave the country now and protect it. And we will fight on the pitch to qualify for them and play in the Champions League.”

Dynamo will face Sturm in the third round of the Champions League qualification. The first fight will take place on August 3 in Lodz. The match starts at 21:00.

The main arbiter of the first confrontation will be the Frenchman Francois Letexier. The 33-year-old referee is considered one of the most talented referees in France.

The potential opponent of Dynamo in the playoffs may be the winner of the confrontation between Benfica and Midtjylland. In case of defeat from Sturm, the people of Kiev will play in the Europa League.
